Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM)
Georgia Gulf is one of a relatively small number of manufacturers of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM). We manufacture VCM by heating ethylene dichloride (EDC) in the presence of oxygen. The most important use of VCM worldwide is its polymerization to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or plastics. Georgia Gulf uses about 85% of our VCM production in the manufacture of our vinyl resins. We sell the portion of VCM not used internally to other vinyl resins producers in domestic and international markets.
